The Nigerian Army has been directed by President Muhammadu Buhari to work with the police to flush out bandits from forests in Nigeria, particularly areas affected by attacks recently.

The call was revealed in a statement released by the President’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

President Buhari made this call following the killing of 22 people in Sokoto State by armed bandits, as well as the reported killing of 10 others in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, while responding to the message, noted that he has reached out to the General Officers Commanding the army formations in the affected states, directing them to reinforce the police efforts to track the bandits and bring them to justice.

Buhari also commiserated with the affected states and assured the Governors, Aminu Tambuwal and Simon Lalong of the federal government’s support.

He noted that the federal government will bring to an end the attacks in the regions.

The President prayed that Allah would comfort those who lost beloved family members and friends in the attacks.
