Bauchi State Government on Tuesday imposed a total lockdown for 14 days which would begin on Thursday, 2nd April 2020 from 6:00 pm.

In a statement to newsmen signed by the Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Sabi’u Baba, the lockdown was to enable the state to curb the spread of the virus.

However, movements would be allowed only on Wednesdays and Saturdays to enable residents to buy food items.

He said, “In an effort to control the spread of COVID-19, the Bauchi State Government has imposed a lockdown throughout the state for a period of 14 days with effect from Thursday, 2nd April, 2020 from 6.00pm. Consequently, all borders to Bauchi State will equally be closed.

“His Excellency, Bala Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi state, appreciates the sacrifice of the public in these agonising times.

“He has subsequently directed that in order for the public to secure food items, movement is allowed between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The ban does not, however, affect essential services.”
