The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Malam Muhammad Bello, has in a bid to manage the spread of the global epidemic which has been on the increase in Abuja introduces five new measures to be taken to break the chain.

Naija News recalls that of the 14 new cases of the COVID-19 recently confirmed in Nigeria, 2 were from the FCT while 12 in Lagos.

Malam Bello, however, has announced on Thursday that a constitution of five enforcement teams would be made available across the Federal Capital to ensure total compliance of already laid down COVID-19 containment strategies.

He revealed that the first team will be deployed to monitor and ensure compliance of containment measures in event centres, night clubs, restaurants, and markets.

Team two will be in charge of motor parks, bus terminals, and taxis, while the third team will be deployed to worship centres to monitor and ensure compliance.

Mallam Bello further said that another team, the fourth, will also ensure total compliance in educational institutions, while the last team, team five, will take on the Area Councils to ensure compliance in all.

This the Minister revealed at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, March 26 in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Anthony Ogunleye.

He said: “The respective Area Council Chairmen would also constitute these teams in their domains.

“The whole idea is to encourage FCT residents to abide by the regulations and where necessary, to enforce, and we have the full support of all the appropriate security agencies.”

“Restaurants have been instructed to provide their services but only in the manner of allowing customers to take what they call a takeaway.”

“Sitting within enclosed restaurant facilities are discouraged, unless, of course, within established hotels where the principle of social distancing will be adopted.”

Malam Bello further reiterates that businesses would only be allowed to operate between the hours of 6 am and 9 pm on the advice of security agencies and health authorities effective from Friday, March 27.
