The new virus ” Hantavirus” is said to be spread by rodents and can cause quite a number of diseases in people.

Recall that Coronvirus outbreak had begun in Wuhan, China late last year, and the World Health Organisation declared it as a global pandemic, with more than 390,000 confirmed cases at different parts of the world with over N17,000 deaths.

Today, a man from the Yunnan province of the country died, while on a bus on Monday after he tested positive for hantavirus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the US, has said that although the virus is not new, the case of person-to-person transmission is extremely rare.

The CDC explained that unlike coronavirus, hantavirus does not spread in the air, and can only be passed to another person if they come in contact with Urine, faeces and saliva of rodents.
It could also be contracted if someone touches their eyes, nose or mouth after touching rodent droppings, urine, or nesting materials

“Rodent infestation in and around the home remains the primary risk for hantavirus exposure. Even healthy individuals are at risk for Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) infection if exposed to the virus,” the CDC said on its website.

Naija News understands that the early symptoms of the disease includes fever, muscle ache, abdominal pain, dizziness, headache and abdominal problems, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
