China did not register any new cases of locally-sourced coronavirus infection on Monday, but health officials said an additional 39 imported cases.

Nine deaths were also recorded, all in the city of Wuhan, the cradle of the epidemic in China, according to the official report.

Two months to the day after the quarantine of the metropolis of 11 million inhabitants, no new contamination was reported there Monday, for the fifth consecutive day.

In recent weeks, the number of new daily cases has dropped sharply in China.

The majority now concern contaminations of people returning from abroad. Of the 39 new cases reported on Monday, ten are in Shanghai and ten others in Beijing.

To prevent these “imported” contaminations from relaunching an epidemic widely contained in China, the authorities now impose a quarantine of 14 days on anyone arriving on Chinese soil.

And since Monday, all international flights to Beijing have been diverted to other regional airports where reinforced sanitary controls are in place. Only passengers tested negative can then reach the Chinese capital.

With a total of 81,093 cases and 3,270 deaths officially recorded, China is the second country most affected in the world by the new coronavirus. 507 imported contaminations have been reported.
