BREAKING: NCDC Confirms Cases Of Omicron Variant In Nigeria

Nigeria has recorded 10 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the number of cases in the country to twenty-two.

Naija News reports that this was disclosed by the minister of health, Osagie Ehanire on Saturday, March 21.

The minister of health said the infection is in three states in addition to the FCT — Lagos, Ekiti, and Ogun.

This online new news platform understands that the three cases in Abuja — two males and one female — all returned from abroad between March 14 and 18 while one has been in self-isolation, the other two have not.

Ehanire also said the 10 new cases are Nigerians, and that nine of them have travel history to Canada, France, The Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom and returned in the past one week, while the tenth case is a close contact of a previously confirmed case.

According to him, “Nigeria has recorded 10 new cases of COVID-19 in Lagos and Abuja.

“That is a total of 22 cases in Nigeria: Lagos, 16; FCT, 3; Ekiti, 1, and Ogun, 2,” he added.

The minister added that two of the patients have been discharged, and that “all cases are clinically stable and receiving adequate care”.

Similarly, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) tweeted that of the 10 new cases, 3 are in the Federal Capital Territory and 7 are in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city. It added that 9 out of the 10 cases have travel history outside Nigeria in the last one week while the 10th case is a close contact of a confirmed case.

The NCDC tweeted: “@Fmohnigeria has confirmed 10 new cases of #COVID19 in #Nigeria Of the 10 new cases, 3 are in the Federal Capital Territory and 7 are in Lagos 9 out of the 10 cases have travel history outside Nigeria in the last one week. The 10th case is a close contact of a confirmed case.

“All new cases have mild to moderate symptoms and are being managed at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital and Infectious Disease Hospital, Lagos. We urge the public to remain calm and adhere to social distancing and other measures in place.”

Meanwhile, this is coming a few hours after an Italian index case of coronavirus in Nigeria tested negative and was discharged.
