1. Supreme Court Reserves Ruling On Zamfara APC’s Request

The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved ruling in an application by the All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking a review of the judgment that disqualified the governorship and other candidates of the party in Zamfara State during the 2019 general elections.

A five-member panel of justices led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad announced that a new date would be communicated to the parties after listening to their arguments.

2. Reps Issue Directive To Buhari Govt Over Coronavirus

The House of Representatives on Tuesday called on the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal government to ban all large gatherings in Nigeria to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

The Green Chamber made the call while urging the federal government to postpone the National Sports Festival.

3. President Buhari, Gov. Diri Meet Behind Closed Doors In Abuja

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Duoye Diri on Tuesday met behind closed doors with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

The federal government of Nigeria has bowed to pressure and postponed the National Sports Festival tagged Edo 2020.

This development was confirmed by the Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare, in a series of tweets on Tuesday.

5. Federal Government Puts $22.7bn Borrowing Plan On Hold

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, has announced the intention of the Federal Government to postpone its $22.7 billion external borrowing plans due to current realities in the global economic landscape.

Speaking in Abuja, at the 2020 International Conference on the Nigerian Commodities Market, organized by the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, Ahmed stated that the government would not go ahead with the borrowing programme even if it secures the approval of the National Assembly.

6. Nigeria’s Inflation Rate Hits 12.2% In February

The consumer price index, (CPI) which measures inflation increased by 12.20% (year-on-year) in February 2020.

This 0.07% higher than the rate of 12.13% recorded in January 2020.

7. Fresh Case Of Coronavirus Recorded In Lagos State

A third case of the coronavirus disease has been confirmed in Lagos State, Nigeria’s commercial capital city.

This was confirmed on Tuesday, 17th March by the Lagos State Ministry of Health.

8. 2023 Presidency: Bode George Reveals What He Will Do If Tinubu Contests

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George has revealed fresh plans for 2023 presidency.

The PDP chieftain in an interview monitored by Naija News on Daily Trust, noted that he would join the 2023 presidential race if Asiwaju Bola Tinubu decides to contest.

9. Coronavirus: We Will Not Place Travel Ban On Foreign Countries — Nigerian Government Insists

The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Olorunnibe Mamora has reinstated the intention of the Federal Government about imposing a travel ban on visitors from countries where the deadly coronavirus has a stronghold.

Mamora said during a press conference in Abuja that visitors from such countries would be screened before entering Nigeria but not banned from either traveling out or into the century.

10. Euro 2020 Soccer Tournament Postponed For A Year

The Union of European Football Associations, UEFA, has postponed the European Championship until the summer of 2021, following the outbreak of coronavirus.

UEFA held a conference call with Europe’s 55 national football associations at 12 pm UK time.
