While constables recruited into the Nigerian Police Force in 2019 are still on training process at the force colleges within the country, the Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Dingyadi, disclosed on Tuesday, March 17 that the force will soon open its portal to receive fresh applicants into the constable category.

It could be recalled that the force was directed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration some times ago to recruit no less than 40,000 constables within four-year space.

Speaking about the development, Dingyadi in a statement on Tuesday at an event in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, noted that the force is already making arrangements for the recruitment of fresh 10,000 applicants.

Dingyadi said that the recruitment will increase and strengthen the police force in tackling the security challenges facing the country.

He said, “As I speak now, training activities are ongoing in all our training institutions for the first batch of 10,000 recruits out of the 40,000 approved by the President while arrangements are being made for the commencement of the next batch of 10,000 constables.”

Dingyadi further reveals that there has been communication between him, the Police IG and the PSC to set up an interim committee which will facilitate the take-off of the Police Trust Fund and to ensure the passage of the Police Reform Bill.

This was confirmed on Friday, 13th March in a statement by Mr Sunday James, the Service Public Relations Officer, who said the recruitment was approved by the board under its Chairman and Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola.
