2023: APC Planning 3rd Term Agenda For Buhari - PDP Alleges In Fresh Alarm

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the suspected attack on President Muhammadu Buhari in Kebbi State as a national security issue.

The opposition party also called for an investigation into the circumstances that played out in Kebbi State on Thursday during the Argungu fishing festival.

As earlier reported by Naija News, the President posed for a picture session with the Kebbi State governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and other dignitaries when a man suddenly bombed into the session and headed straight for the President.

A quick intervention of the security operatives present who moved quickly and apprehended the man, however, saved the day.

Reacting to the development in a statement on Friday, the PDP said the experience was a security breach and should be handled with all sense of responsibility.

It added that the situation had exposed how poorly Buhari’s government has handled the issue of insecurity in Nigeria.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, the opposition party stressed that the, “office and person of the President embodies the identity and sovereignty of our nation. The safety of Mr. President and his family members is therefore paramount and must not be compromised under any excuse.”

“PDP is however worried that the security lapses around Mr. President, leading to the breach, further shows the poor handling of security issues by the Presidency which also spectacles in the ineffective management of overall national security under the current administration.

“While urging Nigerians to continue to be vigilant, especially at this trying time, we, however, stressed that inasmuch as the citizens may be hurting over the hardship occasioned by the misrule of the present administration, resorting to acts of violence against the leaders does not offer the needed solution.”

Meanwhile, it will be recalled the presidency later clarified to the public that the man only wanted to shake hands with the president and not attack him.

This Mr. Femi Adesina, special adviser to President Buhari on media and publicity declared shortly after the video went viral on social media.
