Security was on Wednesday beefed up at the compound housing the sacked Emir of Kano State, Muhammad Sanusi II at Awe town in Nasarawa State.

Over 40 operatives of the Nigeria police, personnel of the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, were reportedly seen securing the compound.

According to The Punch, a police vehicle with number plate 3623 was parked in front of the houses, close to the palace of the paramount ruler of Awe Chiefdom, Alhaji Isah Umar.

It was gathered that the compound, which was said to be a private building of the Chairman of the Local Government Area, Umar Abubakar, is along the road that leads to Benue State.

The security agents turned back two paramount rulers – the Yakanajin Uke, Alhaji Ahmad Abdullai, and the Sarkin Karshi, Dr Muhammed Bako, – who had visited the house to see the sacked Emir Sanusi.

The monarchs, who got to the gate of the compound around 1:30pm, were turned back by the security men.

The overzealous security agents also chased away a crowd who had gathered in front of the compound. They also harassed journalists, who were at the gate of the compound.

Naija News reports that the Kano State government led by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje on Monday, March 9, dethroned Emir Sanusi.

This online news platform understands that Emir Sanusi’s dethronement followed the State Council executive meeting presided over by the Governor Ganduje.

However, a statement by Alhaji Usman Alhaji, the Secretary to the State Government, said Emir Sanusi’s dethronement was due to his “total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the governor and other lawful authorities”

“The Kano State Executive Council under the chairmanship of His Excellency, the governor of Kano, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje has unanimously approved the immediate removal/dethronement of the Emir of Kano Emirate, Muhammad Sanusi II,” the statement said.

Against the backdrop of this development, the former Central Bank Governor was banished from Kano to a town in Nasarawa State.
