Policemen had to be drafted in to restore calm after a clash between traders and members of the FCT task force degenerated beyond control on Tuesday.

Traders in the Dutse market and members of the FCT task force clashed over the demolition of some shops in the market.

Naija News reports the market is located in one of the satellite towns in the federal capital territory of Abuja.

It was gathered that the task force arrived at Dutse modern market to demolish illegal structures built around complex after a quit notice was served on the traders last week.

Some traders and owners of the affected stores, however, resisted the action, chasing away the task force members and set their temporary office on fire.

They also burnt tyres on the road leading to the market as the situation degenerated into violence and paralyzed activities in the market as other traders and buyers scampered to safety.

The development resulted in the deployment of security operatives to arrest the situation and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
