An aide of President Muhammadu Buhari on media, Tolu Ogunlesi, has reacted to the decision of the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, to dethrone the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Ogunlesi his reaction noted that a sitting Governor in the country has the right to remove any traditional leader.

Recall that the Governor Ganduje-led government on Monday dethroned the Emir of Kano over allegation of insubordination.

Ogunlesi on his Twitter account wrote, “A sitting governor can dethrone anybody – they have the power.”

“That is the way the system is set up. Nobody is above being dethroned. Governors formally appoint them, present them the staff of office and fund their offices.”

Ogunlesi also cited the incident involving Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, who “paraded Rivers traditional rulers recently and addressed them like a kindergarten class.”

“That is the power a governor has over royal institutions. Every governor. It actually didn’t start today, it has been so for a long time.”

Following the development, the state government appointed Aminu Ado Bayero as Sanusi’s replacement and the 15th Emir of the State.
