Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has lamented that the outbreak of the coronavirus disease is having a negative impact on the Lagos-Ibadan rail project.

He noted that the construction work on the rail project has been put on hold due to the outbreak of the COVID-19.

The Minister disclosed this on Thursday during a live television programme on African Independent Television monitored in Abuja.

Amaechi disclosed that workers of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, the contractor handling the project, were held up in China on the orders of the government their country.

He said, “If not for coronavirus we would have finished the Lagos-Ibadan rail, although the project is nearly completed. The CCECC workers are still in China.”

The railway project is one of the major infrastructural projects embarked upon by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The government had previously said the project will be completed and ready for commercial activities in April.
