I Once Worked At A Beach In Ghana After Losing My Dad And Brother – Rema

Mavins records label singer, Divine Ikubor, popularly known by his stage name, Rema has revealed the impact losing his father and brother at a tender age has had on his life.

The talented singer disclosed that things were extremely hard for him and his mother after the death of his father and brother.

The singer further made other revelations about his growing up and challenges he has had to deal with in life.

Rema said at a point in time, his mother was so poor that she couldn’t afford money for public transport and hard to trek long distances.

He made the disclosures during a chat with Manny Norte on Capital Xtra.

After his father and brother’s death, Rema disclosed he had to take on many odd jobs to survive and make ends meet.

“At some points, things got tough I had to man up. My past life has the same effect on my present being in the music and taking things forward,” he narrated.

“I had to work hard because I lost my father and my brother and things were left only to me. So, I had to put things in place. I did a lots of job like working at a beach in Ghana.

“Hard work got me my this shape. At first, it was really hard for me, I cried and was really sad. When I got back to Nigeria I had to appreciate my mum for being strong so I had to get her a car.

He appreciated his mother for the big role she played not only in his life but also in his career. He added that the appreciation was part of why he had to buy her a car when he was only 17.

“I was tired of seeing her trekking everyday. She didn’t even have money to use a public transport or motorcycle. Even though I had no car of my own then, I had to buy my mum a car.”

Speaking on his musical career, Rema disclosed that he spent most of his time in the studio after returning to Nigeria. He added that it was during this time that he met a producer called Ozedikus in August 2018, produced ‘Dumebi,’ which later turned out to be a hit song.
