Airing Hate Speech Attracts N5m Fine – NBC Warns Media Houses

BON Slams NBC Over N5m Fine Imposed On Trust TV, Others

Media houses have been warned by the National Broadcasting Commission to desist from airing hate speech which would henceforth attract a fine of #5 million.

The development was revealed by the Zonal co-ordinator of the commission in charge of Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna and Katsina state, Abubakar Umar Kumo when he visited the Managing Directors of Jigawa broadcasting House in Dutse.

Kumo during the visit said airing hate speech under the provision of the commission code attracts a minimum fine of five million Naira.

He further stated that violation of code by Broadcast media in the running of their programmes will also attract a minimum of two hundred and fifty thousand Naira fine.

Kumo called for closer understanding between NBC and electronic media to ensure sanity in the Broadcasting industry.

Managing Directors of Jigawa Radio and Television assured to maintain the mutual understanding existing between the stations and the state NBC Office.
