Just In: Youths Stopped From Attacking Oshiomhole In Benin

The convoy of the embattled National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, was almost attacked by angry youths on Saturday in Benin, the capital of Edo State.

Naija News reports that the APC Chairman of in Benin to attend the burial ceremony of the mother of Hon. Ehiozuwa Agbonyinma, late Cecilia Agbonyinma.

Security operatives were mobilised to the Benin Airport following reports that protesting youths were planning to boo Adams Oshiomohle.

Security agents comprising of soldiers, policemen, officials of the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were stationed at strategic position at the Airport.

It was gathered that the protesting youths chanted anti-Oshiomhole songs and used other unprintable words.

Edo State former Deputy Governor, Dr Pius Odubu, General Charles Airhiavbere and other APC chieftains were at the Airport to welcome the APC National Chairman.

Speaking to The Nation, some chieftains of the ruling party accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of mobilising thugs to disgrace is predecessor.

The chieftains said it was wrong for Obaseki to always mobilise thugs to harras Oshiomhole.

Reacting, a top official of the Edo State government dismissed insinuations that Obaseki was behind the protest.

He said: “Oshiomhole should leave Obaseki out of his predicament. If Oshiomhole goes to Portharcourt or Bayelsa, you know the reception he will receive.

“Didn’t you see the protest against him in Abuja? Was that also Obaseki? Oshiomhole has general dislike across the country. Oshiomhole’s travail is self-inflicted.”
