A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday stopped the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from deregistering 31 political parties.

According to the report which was made known to newsmen on Monday, the presiding judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Justice Anwuli Chikere, noted that INEC has failed to oppose the application by the applicants, the affected political parties had the legal right which must be protected.

Meanwhile, Naija News had reported a few days back, February 6 precisely, that Nigeria’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deregistered 74 political parties in the country.

This was disclosed by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu at a news conference in Abuja.
