Reports reaching Naija News at this time reveals that a tanker loaded with fuel had on Wednesday evening caught up with fire in Onitsha.

It was confirmed by the Anambra commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, Andrew Kumapayi, that a fuel tanker capable of taking 33,000ltrs of PMS got caught up with fire at Nkpor area of Onitsha.

Reacting to the explosion, Kumapayi told newsmen that the fire has been confirmed to have resulted from a mechanical deficiency.

“The fuel loaded tanker caught fire due to mechanical deficiency in the engine of the vehicle,” he said.

“The fire which completely burnt the tractor, was put-off by sympathizes, using fire extinguishers. Two male adults were involved. No casualty or injury was recorded.”

He, however, noted that officers of Federal Road Safety Commission diverted traffic to be able to manage the fire from extending to other sections, while they join head with the fire service to normalise the incident and restore proper movement of vehicles.

The Sector Commander also appealed to motorists to monitor and make sure their vehicles are always in good working condition before embarking on any trip.

Meanwhile, Naija News had reported in another news that a part of the family house of former Nigerian leader, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was on Wednesday destroyed by fire.

The family house gutted by fire on Wednesday is located at Ita-Eko in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
