A Section Of Military Barracks’, Market In Abuja Gutted With Fire

In a report confirmed to Naija News at this time, a part of the popular market in Abuja, ‘Mammy market’ has been affected with fire outbreak on Wednesday, February 12.

The report had it that the Market which is situated at the Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja-Keffi Expressway, in Abuja got caught up with fire.

Confirming the incident, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Army Headquarters Garrison, Col Omale Ochagwuba, said that the fire begins very early in the morning and caused the fire alarm to trigger in the cantonment.

He noted that the alarm forced everyone out to the scene of the fire and start making efforts to put off the fire before the men of the Fire Service arrived the place and put it off in a jiffy.

Naija News understands that the fire which reportedly started about 4 am had affected a few shops in the market, destroying properties that are yet to be estimated.

Speaking to newsmen on the incident, Ochagwuba, said that, “The concerted efforts of the emergency responders and the barracks community in bringing the fire under control quickly was quite commendable.”

“Other emergency service like the Federal Road Safety Corps also responded and assisted in controlling traffic at the cantonment bus stop.”

He further revealed that the Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, Maj Gen. J.G Myam, after a visit to the scene directed gallant officers to separate the section of the fire from escalating to other parts of the market to avoid further damages.

This was coming a few hours after Naija News reported that the office of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) located at Alausa, Ikeja caught fire on Wednesday.

Information gathered by our reporter says firefighters promptly arrived at the scene to put out the fire.
