Senate Under My Watch Was Not A Rubber Stamp - Lawan

The Senate has threatened all heads of Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) with a dismissal letter if they ever spend any money without authorization.

Naija News understands that the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly spoke through the Chairman of its Committee on Public Accounts, Matthew Urhoghide.

The lawmaker who expressed misgivings about the attitude of heads of MDAs promise to notify the executive arm of government to dismiss them if they spend money without authorization.

Urhoghide said: “That is what we are going to tell the President of this country. The Executive must comply that you will be removed from office. “The reports of 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 are already in arrears and the procedure is that after getting the audited reports from MDAs, including foreign missions and courts, in accordance with the provisions of Section 85 of our Constitution, these reports are sent to the National Assembly through the Public Accounts Committee of both chambers.

“When it is sent and there are queries that are raised, we call you, the agencies we describe as errant agencies.

He also warned them to desist from sending proxies to represent them.

This followed the failure of some indicted agencies to appear before the Senate Committee on Public Accounts to clear the queries against them.
