Just In: Fire Razes Popular Osun Market

An inferno has destroyed goods worth millions of naira at Atakumosa Central Market, Adeti, Ilesha, in Osun State, Naija News reports.

It was gathered that the fire which started around 1 am on Tuesday morning affected several shops located at the entrance of the market.

However, with the combined efforts of the police and firemen, the inferno was subdued.

Speaking with the Punch, the Administrative Officer of Osun State Fire Service, Fatai Aremu, said despite early response to the distress call, barriers at the entrance of the affected shops did not allow the firemen access.

According to the Osun State Fire Service official, the damage caused by the fire incident was severe, as he claimed that the cause of the incident had not been ascertained.

Also reacting to the fire incident, the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Folasade Odoro, said officers were deployed to the scene of the fire to stop the looting of goods.

Odoro, who stated that no life was lost, said the command got informed of the incident and mobilised to the scene around 1:20 am.
