The immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke (SAN), has been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on a fresh seven-count charge.

Naija News Understands that Adoke was arraigned alongside Aliyu Abubakar at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Gwagwalada, Abuja.

Both men pleaded not guilty to the fresh charges while still standing trial for the Malabu Oil scam.

One of the fresh allegations made by the EFCC before Justice Binta Nyako was that both men made payments in September 2013 to Adoke’s account, violating the Money Laundering Act.

Prosecuting counsel, Bala Sanga prayed the court to remand the defendants in EFCC’s pending their bail application hearing. but the counsel to Mr Adoke, Mike Ozekhome prays the court to grant bail to the defendant on self recognizance as he was once an Attorney General of the Federation.

He said in the alternative if the court is to give conditions it should be on a very liberal and affordable terms. He noted by virtue of section 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, the 6 counts against the 1st defendant are bailable.

Meanwhile, Naija News learnt that Adoke, said he preferred to be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre to the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
