Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has berated President Muhammadu Buhari for saying the majority of Boko Haram victims are Muslims.

Naija News reports that in a statement on Tuesday, President Buhari had said 90 per cent of Boko Haram’s victims in the past years have been Muslims.

The president in an article published in Speaking Out dismissed insinuations that Boko Haram was always targeting Christians in Nigeria.

He said: “It is the reality that some 90 per cent of all Boko Haram’s victims have been Muslims.

“They include a copycat abduction of over 100 Muslim schoolgirls, along with their single Christian classmate, shootings inside mosques; and the murder of two prominent imams.”

Reacting in a statement on his Twitter page, Atiku Abubakar warned Buhari not to rationalise killings.

According to the former Vice President, killings must be condemned unequivocally.

He wrote: “We mustn’t rationalise killings. Whether Christian, Muslim, Traditionalist, or Atheist, the killing of any human being, by Boko Haram, or any misguided group, is wrong & should be condemned unequivocally. There is no compulsion in religion. Only love.”
