Arsenal are reported to have made a shocking £5m bid for Southampton defender, Cedric Soares with a bid to bring him over to the Emirates before the transfer window shuts on Friday.

The versatile Soares has just six months left on his current contract with Southampton and has been identified as an ideal candidate to solve the defensive challenges at Arsenal.

The Gunners are understood to be ready to pay £5m plus bonuses for the 28-year-old.

Soares is primarily a right-back player, but also capable of playing as a left-back in the defensive mix.

Southampton may be open to letting the player leave ahead of Kyle Walker-Peters’s expected arrival on loan from Tottenham on Wednesday.
