The Lagos State Special Offences Court was caught with surprises when a prosecution witness, Vivian Nduka, on Monday narrated how an alleged rapist, Adelaja Oloyede, confessed to using charm on his victim.

A police officer identified as Nduka, told the court that the victim revealed that the incident happened on December 10, 2017, when she was returning from church.

Nduka while being led in evidence by the prosecutor, K. A. Ayankanbi, said the defendant told her upon interrogation that Oloyede had an unlawful carnal knowledge of her,

She further stated that he charmed the victim after exchanging a handshake with her.

“Oloyede told me that he had carnal knowledge of her and that the complainant told him that she was a virgin and he said he wanted to confirm; so, he led her into his apartment, administered some fetish substances on her following which he had sex with her and later gave her N1,500 to go and take care of herself,” Nduka stated.

The witness maintained her ground that Oloyede had carnal knowledge of the victim when being cross-examined by the defendant’s counsel, C.J. Jiakpona.

Nduka quoted the defendant as writing in his statement, “I started smooching her and she told me that she was a virgin; I told her that I knew and I took her into my room and had carnal knowledge of her. I actually deceived her into my room.”

She, however, noted that she did not collect the underwear of the victim for forensic analysis, neither did she have any document backing the exhibits presented before the court.

The case was adjourned by the presiding judge, Justice Abiola Soladoye, till March 19, 2020, for the continuation of trial.
