1. Maryam Sanda To Die By Hanging As Court Convicts Her Of Murdering Her Husband

Maryam Sanda has been found guilty and convicted of murdering her husband, Bilyamin Mohammed Bello and has been sentenced to death by hanging.

A federal capital territory (FCT) high court gave the verdict on Monday, 27th January 2020 in the case where Sanda stood trial on a two-count charge of culpable homicide.

2. Tambuwal Becomes Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum

Sokoto state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has emerged the chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors forum.

A statement by Muhammad Bello, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the governor said his emergence was as a result of a unanimous appointment by the PDP governors while in their 88th National Executive Council meeting.

3. Lagos State Government Bans Okada And Keke

The Lagos State government has officially announced the ban of Motorcycle (Okada) and Tricycle (Keke) in certain areas of the state.

The government said its decision follows the need to tackle the menace created by the motorcycles and tricycles and the need to guarantee the security and safety of the lives of Lagosians.

4. Biafra: Court Sets New Date For Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has fixed March 31, 2020, for the continuation of the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Naija News reports that the court fixed the date after the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari asked the Federal High Court to reject a request to restore Kanu’s revoked bail.

5. N-Power Update: Minister Reveals Government’s Plans For Beneficiaries

The federal government of Nigeria has revealed that it is working on re-packaging and amending the N-Power scheme to make the scheme better.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige made the disclosure over the weekend when he visited N-POWER trainees at Anamco And Tetralog Mechatronics companies in Enugu.

6. Shehu Sani Granted N10m Bail

Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central in the upper chamber of Nigeria’s National Assembly has been granted a N10m bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday.

Sani had been arraigned in court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over charges of bribery.

7. Kogi: Gov. Yahaya Bello Sworn In For Second Term

The executive Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, who was the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the governorship election in the state has been sworn in for another term in office.

The inauguration ceremony of the Governor and his Deputy, Edward David Onaja was conducted in Lokoja, the state capital on Monday, 27th January.

8. Uzodinma: Ihedioha Returns To Supreme Court

Sacked former governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, has asked the Supreme Court to review its judgment on January 14, 2020, which declared Senator Hope Uzodinma as governor of the state.

Naija News reports that the Supreme Court headed by Justice Tanko Muhammad has sacked the incumbent, Governor Ihedioha from office.

9. What Buratai Told Soldiers On Monday About Boko Haram, ISWAP

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has called on troops of Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) to continue their onslaught against Boko Haram and ISWAP until they are completely subdued.

Naija News reports that Buratai made this call while addressing troops of 156 Task Force Battalion deployed to Mainok village in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno on Monday, January 27.

10. Ademola Lookman Takes Final Decision On Playing For Nigeria

Tunde Adelakun, a Technical Assistant of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), says Ademola Lookman has applied to FIFA to switch his allegiance to the Super Eagles from England.
