Jibrin Accepts Defeat In Kano Re-run

Mallam Abdulmumin Jibrin of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accepted defeat in the Saturday rerun in the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State.

Naija News recalls the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Alhaji Aliyu Yako, was declared winner of the rerun election by INEC.

Yako defeated Jibrin, a former Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Appropriation, and others who contested the election.

Announcing the result, the returning officer, Prof Abdullahi Arabi disclosed that Jibrin polled 13,507 votes against the 48,601 votes polled by Yako.

“Ali Datti Yako, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby returned as duly elected,” Arabi said.

Reacting to his loss at the polls, Jibrin in a statement on Sunday that his mandate was stolen. He alleged harassment and intimidation of his loyalists and party faithful who turned out to vote for him.

He said, “My constituents came out en masse to exercise their civic responsibility but were denied their franchise to vote the candidate and party of their choice through the application of maximum force in all the wards of our constituency except my home town of Kofa, Bebeji, that proved impenetrable. We know we won the election fairy and squarely but our mandate was stolen.
