Court Grants Shehu Sani Bail

Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central in the upper chamber of Nigeria’s National Assembly has been granted a N10m bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday.

Sani had been arraigned in court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over charges of bribery.

He had been in EFCC custody since he was arrested in December 2019, Naija News recalls.

Nigeria’s anti-graft agency had accused the former senator of collecting $15,000 from one Sani Dauda, the ASD motor boss under false pretence on November 20, 2019, promising to give Ibrahim Muhammad Tanko, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, in order to influence some pending cases in court.

He was also accused of collecting another $10,000 from Dauda to bribe Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the EFCC.

Sani, however, pleaded not guilty when the allegations were read out to him.

The presiding judge, Inyang Ekwo has now admitted the former senator to bail after hearing submissions from all parties and a bail application moved by A.A Ibrahim, counsel to Sani.

But Abba Mohammed, counsel to the EFCC, asked the court for a remand order against the former lawmaker.
