Archbishop Mourns Late CAN Chairman

Most Revd Justin Portal Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, has condemned the recent killing of Revd. Lawan Andimi, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State by Boko Haram terrorists.

Naija News recalls Revd. Andimi was abducted by the terrorists following a failed attack on Michika LGA by the dreaded Boko Haram sect on January 2, 2020.

It will be recalled this online platform also obtained and published a video of the CAN chairman who spoke out from Boko Haram custody where he expressed hope of been rescued from the insurgents.

In the video released by respected journalist, Ahmad Salkida, Rev. Andimi, however, declared that if its pleased God that he would not get out of captivity, they should look after his children.

However, Andimi was on Monday killed by members of the Boko Haram group after they had initially demanded the payment of ransom for his release.

Reacting to the killing of the CAN official, Archbishop Welby on his verified Twitter handle on Thursday, described the killing of Andimi as an attack on Christians.

He wrote: “Boko Haram’s murder of Lawan Andimi, a prominent Christian leader in Nigeria, is another attack on Christians, as we saw at Christmas.

” His last statement was of faith and hope. We must thank God for his witness and pray for his family, and for authorities to be effective.”
