Allow Your Children Go To School Or Be Jailed – Kaduna Gov’t Warns Parents

The Kaduna State Government, through its Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs Phoebe Yayi, warned parents in the state to either let their children go to school or they opt for a jail term for not doing so.

Naija News learned that Mrs Phoebe, on Friday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, admonished parents to let their children go to school, else they face a jail term.

She stated that the state government has thereby made education free to every child from primary to secondary school in other to avoid excuses from any parent.

Mrs Phoebe in her statement stressed that every child has the right to free, compulsory and universal basic education, adding that the state government has a duty to provide such education.

She said, “Therefore, parents have no excuse not to send their children to school, as the government has taken off all financial burden from parents.

“You should be aware that the Child Welfare and Protection Law, 2018, section 18 (6), stipulates that any parent or guardian who fails to send his or her child to school commits an offence.

“It added that a parent is liable on a first conviction to be reprimanded and ordered to undertake community service and on second conviction risk fine or imprisonment or both.

“As such, sending your children to school is no longer a choice, but compulsory and failure to do so is a criminal offence with a possible jail term.”

The permanent secretary added that even adults were given a second chance to acquire education in the spirit of “not living anyone behind.”

Meanwhile, Naija News had reported that Justice Hanatu Balogun of the Kaduna state high court has issued a restraining order to Governor Nasir El-Rufai from taking further action on the demolition of late Gen. Sani Abacha’s Hotel in the state.

The Durbar Hotel Plc located along the Muhammadu Buhari Way in Kaduna, the state capital, which reportedly belongs to the family of the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, was tempered with by officials of the state, led by the Kaduna State Urban and Property Development Agency.
