The Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari has finally reached an agreement with South West Governors on Operation Amotekun, a Western Nigeria Security Network.

Naija News had reported earlier that the Federal Government represented by Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s Vice President, met with the six governors from the South West.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who had earlier tagged Amotekun “illegal”, was present at the meeting

Speaking after the meeting with Buhari government, Rotimi Akeredolu, the Chairman of the South West Governors Forum and governor of Ondo State, told State House correspondents that a formal agreement has been reached. Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector-General of Police, was also present at the meeting.

When quizzed if the governors sought advice before launching Amotekun, the Ondo Governor said they consulted with the Inspector General of Police.

Confirming the agreement, Laolu Akande, a media aide to Vice President Osinbajo tweeted: “News Flash: FG, Southwest Governors agree on Amotekun.”
