Tottenham Signs Portuguese Midfielder

Jose Mourinho has completed the signing of Portugal midfielder, Gedson Fernandes making him the first arrival at Tottenham since he became manager of the North London club.

The 21-year-old Fernandes arrived at Tottenham on Wednesday on an 18-month loan deal with an option to make the transfer permanent for a reported £56 million ($73 million).

He is expected to provide cover in midfield following the knee injury sustained by Moussa Sissoko which is expected to see him on the sidelines for up to three months.

A club statement on the arrival of Fernandes at Tottenham reads: “We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement for the 18-month loan of Gedson Fernandes from Benfica with an option to make the transfer permanent.

Speaking on the signing, Fernandes, who has been capped twice at the senior level by Portugal told Spurs TV he was excited to link up with Mourinho because he’s one of the best.

“It’s one big dream to come to this big club,” he said.

I have no words to say about the stadium because it is fantastic,” he added.

I have never been or seen anything like this, It is unbelievable.

More arrivals may come in at Tottenham before the transfer window shuts as the club may seek cover for Harry Kane who may be out for the season with a hamstring injury, with the club currently sitting in the eighth position on the Premier League table.
