The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, has called on Nigeria to be ready to use electric cars which are environmentally friendly than using cars which uses fuel.

Adegbite stated this while speaking at an interactive session between the Federal Government and the State Governments on Tuesday in Lagos.

The Minister noted that the drive is to ensure that investors coming into the country are not faced with multiple barriers after being licenced by the federal government to do business in the mining sector.

He accused some state governors of exploring the mineral resources in their states to grow their revenue without following the right process.

Adegbite revealed that the federal government is already engaging state governors on delivering the funds from the minerals into the federal account so that they could benefit from the thirteen per cent derivation fund, which some were already benefiting from.

He further stated that investors are aware of the resources in the country but want to get the value for their money.

The minister added that there would be a time oil would no longer be lucrative, hence the need to focus on the mining and agriculture sectors.

He said, “The world is looking away from fossil fuel, talking of climate change, it is warming up and everybody is looking elsewhere.”

“Some countries have set targets in the near future when they will ban fossil fuel vehicles, so all vehicles you will find will be electric cars, so Nigeria needs to prepare well ahead of time for this.”
