1. Court Stops NERC From Increasing Electricity Tariff

A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos has stopped the proposed over 40 percent increase in electricity tariff.

Naija News understands that Justice Muslim Sule Hassan who gave the verdict said the tariff hike should be suspended until further notice.

2. President Buhari Nullifies REA Boss Suspension By Minister Of Power

The suspension of the Managing Director of Rural Electrification Agency, Mrs Damilola Ogunbiyi has been reversed of her role suspension, following an order by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ogunbiyi, whose suspension was made public in December following the order of suspension by Minister Power, Sale Mamman, has now been reversed.

3. Former President Goodluck Jonathan Speaks On Contesting 2023 Presidential Election

Goodluck Jonathan, the immediate past President of Nigeria, has denied the reports in some section of the Nigerian media, stating that he is under pressure to contest the 2023 presidential election.

4. Policeman Shoots Bus Driver, Passenger In Bayelsa State

The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a mobile police officer for the shooting of a commercial bus driver and another passenger.

A statement released by the command on Tuesday said the suspect was arrested on the orders of the State Commissioner of Police, Uche Anozia.

5. Boko Haram: Bomb Explosion Kills 30 People On Crowded Borno Bridge

Not less than 30 people in Gamboru, Borno state has been killed by an improvised explosive device that went off on a bridge.

Naija News learnt that the bomb detonated at roughly 5 PM. on Monday, January 6, 2020, on a crowded bridge in the market town of Gamboru that leads into neighbouring Cameroon.

The United States of America has issued a fresh warning to its citizens resident in Nigeria following the recent killing of Iran’s top military commander, Qassem Soleimani, by American forces.

It will be recalled that Soleimani was killed by an airstrike at Baghdad airport early on Friday.

Major Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi, Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole on Monday night, survived a Boko Haram ambush attack.

The attack was said to have happened a few kilometers away from Jakana, on Monday around 7: 20 pm.

10. 2023: Femi Adesina Reveals What Buhari Will Do About Picking His Successor

Chief Femi Adesina, media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that the President is hugely interested in who will succeed him in 2023.

The presidential aide, however, added that President Buhari will not manipulate the process to favour anyone despite the interest.
