President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday summoned the six governors from the South West region to a meeting at the Presidential Villa.

Naija News gathered that the summoned was in connection to the scheduled launch of a new south-west security outfit called Amotekun.

Recall that Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Gboyega Oyetola (Osun) Dapo Abiodun (Ogun) Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti) and Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos) had in 2019 agreed to establish a security outfit to curb insecurity.

It was gathered that the new security outfit is billed to be inaugurated tomorrow (Thursday) in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The launching will be presided over by Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who is the Chairman, Southwest Governors’ Forum.

A source told Daily Post that Buhari had asked the South-west governors to attend a meeting at Aso Rock Wednesday evening to discuss the details of Amotekun.

Recall that the new security outfit idea was generated from a security summit organized by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission in July 2019 at the wake of increased kidnapping and armed robbery in the region.

Amotekun security personnel will include members of the vigilante group in each state of the southwest, security experts and conventional security agencies including the police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
