The Federal Government has been charged by the Zamfara State government to review its plan to withdraw troops in some states affected by terrorist attacks.

The Commissioner in charge of security and home affairs in the state, Abubakar Dauran, while speaking with journalist stated that the withdrawal of the troops would affect the security structure in the states.

Dauran said, “We in Zamfara have already gone far towards the restoration of peace. So if the troops who are helping us in the fight against insurgency are withdrawn, there is every likelihood that the bandits will come back with their heinous crimes.”

“We still need the presence of the military to fight insurgency.”

“The police alone cannot squarely address the insecurity problem in the country.”

Dauran further stated that the insecurity challenges in the country needs collective efforts and should not be left for the security personnel to deal with only.

The commissioner added that the Nigerians need to fight against insurgency alongside the military.

He said, “it would not be a good idea to withdraw the military from fighting the insurgents”.

He noted that though insurgency is coming to an end in the state, there is still a need for the military presence in the state.
