Former Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has described Mikel Arteta’s appointment as the new Gunners head coach as the “right decision.”

The 48-year-old was sacked last month, after an 18-month spell in charge ended with a seven-game winless run.

Manchester City assistant manager, Mikel Arteta, was on Friday appointed as the new head coach of Arsenal

Naija News reports that Arteta, who is a former Arsenal player, was given a three-and-a-half-year deal at the North London club.

The development means Arteta leaves his role as Manchester City assistant manager and replaces Freddie Ljungberg.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Unai Emery insists Arsenal made the right decision.

“He really is prepared to make that next jump.

“He has been at Arsenal before, he’s been in the Premier League and he has been working with Pep Guardiola. I do believe this is a good decision and I would also like it to be a good decision,” Emery said.
