New Jersey Democrat Jeff Van Drew, who voted against Donald Trump on Wednesday, confirmed Thursday from the White House, in the presence of the President, that he will become a Republican.

“Jeff is going to join the republican party, this is great news!”, Launched the American president, all smiles, from the Oval office. “We are very happy to have Jeff with us,” he added.

Sitting next to the president, the elected democrat assured the former businessman that he could now count on unfailing support.

“You have my eternal support,” he said to Mr. Trump.

“Same with me,” replied the American president, shaking his hand. “I support him,” he added.

Jeff Van Drew, 66, was elected to Congress in 2018 in a district that has been represented by a Republican since 1995.

“I think it’s just more suitable for me,” he said when talking about his change of party.

The elected official quoted former President Ronald Regan, one of his “heroes,” who was initially registered as a Democrat before becoming a Republican in the early 1960s, long before joining the White House in 1981. “I did not leave the democratic party, the party left me”, he had launched in a sentence remained famous.

Donald Trump became Wednesday the third president in American history indicted in Congress. The Democrat-dominated House of Representatives ruled in favour of the 73-year-old Republican billionaire’s impeachment for “abuse of power” and “obstructing the smooth running of Congress”.

It is now up to the Senate to judge Donald Trump, presumably in January. The Republicans, who control this enclosure, have the firm intention of acquitting their president.
