The Appeal Court sitting in Lagos State on Thursday rejected the appeal filed by a former Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Dr Joseph Nwobike against his conviction.

Naija News recalls that the Lagos State High Court had convicted the former SAN in April 2018 of attempting to pervert the course of justice by inducing court registrars to ensure that his cases were assigned to his preferred judges so he could obtain favourable judgments.

Justice Raliat Adebiyi had convicted Nwobike of 12 counts and sentenced him to one-month imprisonment.

Following his conviction, the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee stripped him of his SAN rank.

Not satisfied with the ruling of the Lagos High Court, Nwobike approached the appellate court.

Delivering judgement on Thursday, the Court of Appeal held that the ex-SAN appeal lacked merit.

The appellate court affirmed his conviction on counts 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16 and 17.
