Supreme Court Upholds Emmanuel’s Election Victory

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has dismissed the appeal challenging Udom Emmanuel’s election as the duly elected governor of Akwa Ibom State.

The unanimous judgment of the court was delivered by Justice Musa Dattijo Muhammad on Wednesday.

The apex court ruled that the appeal challenging Emmanuel’s decision was lacking in merit.

Naija News recalls that Governor Emmanuel won the March 9 governorship poll on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), thereby becoming Akwa Ibom governor for a second term.

Governor Emmanuel defeated his APC rival and others to extend his stay in office by another four years.

Mr Nsima Ekere, the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had appealed the outcome of the election.

He argued that the Governorship Election in the state did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010, and requested an order for the 3rd Respondent, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh elections into the office of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
