The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the governor of Nasarawa State.

Naija News reports that a seven-man panel led by Justice Mary Peter-Odili dismissed the appeal of David Ombugadu and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the victory of the APC in the March 9, 2019 elections.

According to Justice Peter-Odili, the appeal filed by the candidate of the PDP lacks merit.

Recall that Ombugadu and the PDP had asked the Election Petition Tribunal in Nasarawa to order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to order a fresh election.

Wale Olanikpekun (SAN), counsel to the PDP, accused INEC of not complying with the accreditation requirements in more than 90 per cent of the polling units in the state.

According to him, certified true copies of voter registers has been tendered to the tribunal.

“The total votes that returned the governor did not tally with the number of accredited voters,” he stated.
