Nnamdi Kanu: You Can't Intimidate Us, Stop Open Display Of Hatred For Igbos - IPOB Fires Back At Buhari

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has called on the Nigerian Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to release Omoyele Sowore, the convener of #RevolutionNow Movement immediately and to cease its “persecution of journalists who report the truth.”

Naija News reports that Kanu made this statement in a series of tweets, days after he held a live broadcast on Radio Biafra where he spoke on the maltreatment of Sowore by officials of the DSS and the abuse of human rights in Nigeria.

This online news platform had reported earlier that the DSS released Sowore on Thursday night after spending 124 days in detention.

Sowore’s release followed a court ruling ordering the secret police to release the former Presidential candidate in the next 24 hours.

However, on Friday morning, the secret police re-arrested Sowore in the premises of the Federal High court in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital and reportedly took the activist to the DSS headquarters.

Apparently displeased with Sowore’s travails, Kanu wrote on twitter: “Omoyele Sowore, a #Nigerian-born journalist and resident of Bergen County, #NewJersey is currently being held in a Nigerian prison after being arrested and charged with organizing a protest, insulting President Buhari, and transferring U.S. money to a Nigerian account.

“@RFKHumanRights called charges “baseless” and stated that his “arbitrary arrest and continued detention violate multiple provisions of #Nigeria’s constitution as well as its international human rights obligations.

“Amb. @JohnCampbellCFR & @CFR reported that the #Nigerian police have used live ammunition against peaceful protesters calling for Sowore’s freedom.

“As the leader of the Indigenous People of #Biafra (IPOB), I’m calling on the Nigerian government to release Sowore immediately and to cease its persecution of journalists who report the truth,” the IPOB leader tweeted.

Meanwhile, Nnamdi Kanu is leading a group (IPOB) seeking secession from Nigeria. The group has since been proscribed by the Federal Government of Nigeria led by President Muhammadu Buhari.
