The government of Iran has disclosed that it is in discussions with President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria over the case of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Abbas Mousavi, has said his country through diplomatic contacts, is in touch with the Nigerian government in managing El-Zakzaky’s health.

Mousavi told reporters in Tehran, capital of Iran on Sunday that President Buhari and Iranian Vice President for Economic Affairs, Mohammad Nahavandian, recently met in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, and discussed on a range of issues, including El- Zakzaky’s case.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 5th Summit of Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Equatorial Guinea, he said.

“We hope that the consultations and arrangements that are being made with Nigerian government will expedite the settlement of this El-Zakzaky issue,” the Iranian official added.

Naija News recalls El-Zakzaky has been under arrest since December 2015, after he and his supporters clashed with soldiers of the Nigerian Army in the convoy of the Chief of Staff, Tukur Buratai in Zaria Kaduna State.

Furthermore, El-Zakzaky and his wife were on Friday transferred from the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, to Kaduna Correctional Services as ordered by the Kaduna State High Court.
