The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the re-submitted Kano Emirates Council Bill.

Naija News recalls that Kano state governor, Umar Ganduje had resubmitted a fresh bill following the nullification of emirates councils and emirs by the High Court.

The Majority leader of the house, Alhaji Labaran Abdul-Madari said the decision to amend the Kano Emirate Council Bill 2019 was in public interest as it will bring the people closer to their traditional rulers.

The bill seeks to break the Kano Emirates, which was established in May 2019, into five – Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rank, and Karate. However, last Wednesday, the state House of Assembly was engulfed in a rowdy session over Governor Ganduje’s reactivated Emirate council Bill where members were sharply divided.

Meanwhile, some security operatives attached to the Kano state House of Assembly harassed and threatened to shoot some newsmen, who had come to cover proceedings on Kano Emirate council Bill but the timely intervention of the Assembly, Director of Press, Malam Ali Bala saved the situation.
