Women Protest Against Sowore's Detention

Free Sowore Protest Rocks Abuja

The streets of Abuja the Nation’s capital on Thursday witnessed some strange scenes as a group of half-naked women held a protest against the continued detention of Omoyele Sowore.

The women who called themselves “concerned mothers” gathered in front of a federal high court in Abuja to demand the release the #RevolutionNow protest convener.

Naija News reports despite court orders granting bail to Sowore, the Department of State Services (DSS) has held him in their custody.

Meanwhile, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday has also ordered the DSS to release Sowore, and Olawale Bakare within the next 24 hours.

She also awarded N100,000 cost against the DSS for keeping Sowore and Bakare in custody despite initial court orders granting them bail.

The elderly women seen protesting Sowore’s release were seen holding placards with inscriptions such as “Sowore is not a criminal” and “respect court order.”
