According to Peller, ‘the constitution provides for freedom of speech and expression for the citizenry, so whatsoever bill that will truncate is dead on arrival.”

The federal lawmaker further said he believes Nigeria already has enough laws to tackle issues surrounding hate speech and fake news, noting that what the social media needs in Nigeria is rather identity verification.

“There are existing laws that provides punishment for those set of person who propagate fake news/Hate speech – The only regulation the social media in Nigeria needs is identity verification’.
