Adamawa LG Polls: 51 Jostles For Chairmanship Seats, As Police Deploy 5,000 Personnel

Ahead of Saturday’s local government polls in Adamawa, the State Independent Electoral Commission, (ADSIEC), says it has cleared 51 chairmanship candidates fielded by six political parties.

The chairman of the state electoral commission, Isa Shettima, who stated this said the other parties only fielded candidates for Councillor positions.

He named the six parties as -Action Alliance (AA), Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Movement for the Restoration and Defence of Democracy (MRDD).

Shettima explained that the list of those cleared pasted at the commission’s headquarters and Local Government offices.

The cleared candidates will contest for 21 chairmanship and 226 councillorship seats in the poll.

They are; All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN), Alliance for Social Democracy (ASD), Kowa Party, Young Progressiveness Party (YPP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Allied Progressives Movement (APM).

All the candidates vying for chairmanship positions according to the result of screening exercise released by ADSIEC, have successfully passed the screening and were duly cleared.

The result also indicated that some of the political parties fielded candidates for chairmanship in at least one or few local governments.

The parties are; Action Alliance (Mubi North), ADC (Ganye, Gombi, Numan, Shelleng and Yola North), SDP (Numan and Guyuk), MRDD (Hong), while APC and PDP fielded 21 Candidates meaning that their parties have candidates in all the 21 LGAs of the state.

NAIJANEWS.COM  recalls that  ahead of the election over 5,000  are set for exercise with the state police command assuring electorates  of its  readiness to ensure a hitch- free exercise throughout the state.

The state police commissioner, Audu Madaki had told newsmen that command will deploy 5,000 police officers to all the nook and cranny of the state to man various polling units in the state.

He also stated that the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCD) among other security agencies in the state will also send their personel to compliment the efforts of the police to ensure free and fair election in the state.

According to him, there is no cause for alarm as they have made adequate preparation and put in place effective strategies to ensure that the election is conducted peacefully.

To ensure  successful exercise devoid of rancour the command  had on Wednesday invited the candidates and leadership of various political parties that will participate in the election together with officials of the State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC)for round table discussion on how to ensure a successful exercise in the state.
