Kano: Ganduje ‘Demolishes’ Emir Sanusi’s Property

The Governor Abdullahi Ganduje-led Kano State Government has reportedly demolished a property belonging to Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, worth N250million.

According to Daily Nigerian, its investigation with Kano Focus Newspapers revealed that the Emir’s property is located at Ibrahim Dabo Road.

It said the property was demolished to make way for the ongoing flyover and underpass being constructed at the Dangi Roundabout area.

The demolition of the property was supervised by the Commissioner of Works, Engineer Muaz Magaji, on Friday, 15 November 2019.

It was gathered that this was done days before the Kano High Court presided by Justice Usman Na’abba nullified the law that created new emirates and the emirs in Kano.

Some officials who spoke on the demolition disclosed that Emir Sanusi bought the 1.2-hectare land in 2010 at the cost of N200million.

The officials, who don’t want their name mentioned, also revealed that the property was recently valued N250million at a commercial rate.

However, the Kano state government insisted that payment was made in accordance with the statutory land rate.

Reacting, Engineer Magaji revealed that Emir Sanusi had been compensated.

He said the state government had acquired the services of property valuers, who valued the property according to statutory land rate.

The commissioner confirmed that he personally mounted the Grade D9 bulldozer to pull down the said the structures.

Magaji said: “I can tell you he got the alert. For eight months, this issue has stalled the project, and this project is for public interest. We were even hoping that the Emir would give us the land free to continue with the work.

“But since he did not give it to us, we decided to engage the service of valuers who valued it according to the statutory land rate because the government does not engage in commercial purchase”.

However, sources revealed to Daily Nigerian that the Kano State government paid the Emir of Kano a paltry N4million for the property.
