The Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) will participate in the Bayelsa State Governorship election.

Naija News reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed Saturday, November 16, 2019, for the state Guber polls.

Recall that the governorship candidate of the APC, David Lyon, was on Thursday disqualified by the Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, the state capital.

The party had suffered a similar major blow on Tuesday when a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja disqualified its deputy governorship candidate, Senator Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo.

Justice Inyang Ekwo ruled that Senator Degi-Eremienyo presented false information in his CF0001 form submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC) to contest the election.

Justice Ekwo said he found no connection in the name on Degi-Eremienyo’s school-leaving certificate, first degree (BA), Master’s and the affidavits he swore to correct his name.

Just a few days after the disqualification of the APC deputy governorship candidate, the court has also ruled that the APC has no candidate for the Saturday governorship election in Bayelsa state.

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, the Minister disclosed that the Court of Appeal in Abuja has granted the APC a stay of execution on the judgment delivered by the Federal High Court.

Silva said the ruling by the High Court disqualifying David Lyon was a bias judgement.

He said: “Everyone in Bayelsa knows that APC has the majority in the state and if there is an election today, it is clear even to blind and the deaf that APC will win.

“The electorate should go en-masse and vote the candidature of the APC, Mr David Lyon.”
