Kogi Guber: Thugs Attack SDP Secretariat, Destroy Campaign Materials

The secretariat of the Social Democratic Party in Lokoja, Kogi State capital, was attacked on Sunday by suspected political thugs alleged to be working for the All Progressives Congress.

According to a report, windows and doors of the secretariat were destroyed, while some campaign materials were destroyed and replaced with the posters of APC governorship candidate, Yahaya Bello.

SDP had accused the ruling party of planning to attack the convoy of the governorship candidate of SDP, Natasha Akpoti and assassinate her, the party claimed that the incident has affirmed the allegation.

The incident which happened on Sunday was condemned by SDP governorship candidate, Natasha Akpoti, she took to her Facebook page to react.

Akpoti stated that Governor Bello upon hearing about her campaign drive in Kogi decided to send political thugs to vandalize SDP office in Lokoja, destroy billboard, tear posters and post his own posters around their office.

She stated that though he is the governorship candidate of APC, he is still the chief executive officer of the state who held under constitutional oath and it’s his responsibility to ensure the safety of lives and properties.

The SPD gubernatorial candidate noted that her posters could be destroyed but her image can not be wiped in the minds of the Kogi people.

“You are misrepresenting the image of APC national and their nationwide followers. In the spirit of democracy, we come in peace.”

The spokesperson to Natasha/Khalid campaign organization, Mr Joel Odaudu, while reacting to the incident accused the ruling party of resorting to violence and Gestapo style to win at all costs.

“APC is already destroying SDP campaign materials in Lokoja and the SDP state Secretariat in Lokoja has been attacked by APC thugs. All these are indications to prove their planned attacks”.

He charged APC to be democratic in their actions, he advised the public not to intimidated by the violent approach of APC, he further stated that the victory of Natasha Akpoti will end the reign of terror in Kogi State.
